Striking antique Afshar Sofreh from South of Iran. Sofreh is the cloth that is laid on the floor for eating. These were used for keeping the dough in. They are often found with dried dough all over them and they have to be washed thorougly to get the dough out of the knots. They always have stunning designs and wonderful colours. This piece is no exception wtih its abrushy soft red background and light green and blue zigzag bands of colour in the field. There is a lot of fine workmanship on the edges with a blue zigzag border. There are small areas of repair as shown in the image and reflected in the price.
