This attractive antique Qashqai rug from the tribes of South Iran is a vibrant and expressive example of tribal weaving, rich in symbolism and character. Its outstanding colours, softened and enriched over time, are the result of naturally dyed handspun wool—hallmarks of authentic nomadic craftsmanship.
At the heart of the composition lies a striking Hashgul medallion, formed by eight stylised paisleys, symbolising unity, fertility, and protection. The medallion is slightly off-centre, a charming and endearing quality often seen in genuinely tribal weavings, where the weaver’s individual touch and spontaneity are celebrated.
Above multicoloured vertical columns sit the distinctive horse heads, a motif inspired by the Persepolis columns of ancient Persia. These elements connect tribal weaving with the grandeur of Persian history, representing both cultural identity and artistic storytelling.
The spandrels echo the Hashgul medallion design, creating a visual balance, while the overall composition remains lively and organic—true to the spirit of Qashqai tribal art.
Whether displayed on the floor or as a wall hanging, this piece brings with it a deep sense of tradition, movement, and personality, making it a wonderful focal point for any room.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
