Attractive Vintage Bijar Rug – Red Ground with Blue & Cream Medallion
This attractive vintage Bijar rug from West Iran is a beautiful example of the region’s famously robust weaving tradition. Often referred to as the “steel carpets” of Iran, Bijar rugs are renowned for their tight weave and long-lasting durability, making them ideal for high-traffic areas or homes seeking both function and beauty.
This particular piece features a classic Herati design on a rich red field, elegantly anchored by a blue and cream central medallion and accompanying spandrels. The deep, saturated tones have matured beautifully over time, thanks to the use of natural dyes and handspun wool—now soft and shiny with age.
A geometric blue border frames the composition, enhancing the symmetry and giving the piece a timeless, decorative appeal. Whether placed in a study, dining room, or lounge, this vintage Bijar rug brings character, history, and craftsmanship into any space.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
