A delightful antique Bakhshaysh carpet from Northwest Iran. The village of Bakhshaysh invariably weaves attractive and decorative designs with a loose weave and a soft handle. The appealing red ground is decorated with a large fish design. This piece is quite interesting because the weaver has readjusted the design to fit into the intended size in two places. These appear as two lines of design breakage in the carpet. This assumption is because the design was a bit larger and more spaced out at the start, but as you get to the bottom, it becomes denser and slightly smaller. This gives the carpet a lot of character and is part of the nature of a village piece. The navy blue border has very distinctive stylised flowers and leaves. The carpet is in good condition with small areas of low pile.
