Antique Khamseh Carpet 353x180cm
A beautifully drawn antique Khamseh long carpet from the tribes of South Iran. The blue ground has many interesting characters. It is scattered with stylised bushes, flower heads, women and chicken amongst other motifs, with cream latticed spandrels. The field is framed with two guard borders, one multicoloured with small lattices with flower heads. The main red border contains a paisley design with larger flower heads. There is “Vst” woven into the back of the rug, which could be the initials of one of the owners or maybe even a dealer.
This is a beautiful example of tribal weaving.
