Elegant antique Saruk carpet from Central Iran. The shrub design Saruks is known in the trade as American Saruk. The soft red ground colour is made by dying the wool with madder and diluted yogurt. The floral blue border brings the whole thing together beautifully. There is a small area of repiling and a minor repair in one corner. This piece has an even low pile with some areas of wear, which is why it has been priced so keenly. It oozes with character.
