Handsome vintage Bijar rug from West of Iran. Pink and blue medallion on a soft red ground decorated with the Herati design and spandrels, framed with a geometric cream border. Bijars are known as steel carpets of Iran. They are woven very tightly and last a very long time. Because they are so hardwearing, when they become antique, they usually have a good pile, which is shiny and soft and the colours deepen with age.
