This exquisite antique Bakhshaysh carpet, handwoven in the Heriz region of Northwest Iran, is a rare and refined piece that embodies the best of Persian village weaving. Compared to more prolific Heriz productions, Bakhshaysh carpets are far less common, especially in such good condition and featuring this unusual ground colour, which adds to its allure and collectibility.
The field design is a beautifully simple yet effective array of flower heads arranged in interconnected lozenges, each flanked by four stylised leaves. This geometric symmetry is both elegant and versatile, making the rug suitable for a variety of settings—from classic and traditional to understated modern interiors.
Framing the field is a mellow yellow main border adorned with large stylised floral heads and leaf motifs, all gracefully connected by flowing vines. This is further enclosed by light blue guard borders, softening the palette and enhancing the overall decorative impact of the piece.
Bakhshaysh carpets like this one were often woven to order in uncommon sizes, which explains their relative scarcity today. Their looser, more spacious drawing style and softer colour combinations make them especially sought-after by decorators and collectors alike.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
