Tabriz

Tabriz has long been associated with carpet weaving. The revival of carpet weaving in the second half of the nineteenth century is much owed to the skill and dedication of Tabrizi weavers.

It lies in the centre of the province of Azarbijan. Their main language is Turkish. Throughout it’s history it has had the distinction of being the capital of Persia under different rulers.

Tabriz weavers weave colours that are in demand at the time. Tabriz carpets are woven with the Turkish knot. It is double wefted, short pile. The drawing of the design and execution of it is perfect.

The rugs of Tabriz are among the most beautiful and most desirable of antique Persian rugs, and have been manufactured in the Azeri speaking area of Northern Iran continuously for centuries.
