This handsome antique Bijar runner from West Iran is a characterful piece that showcases the rich craftsmanship of Kurdish weaving traditions. Featuring a bold double medallion layout, the runner is set against a deep indigo-blue field adorned with the classic Herati (fish) design, adding depth and movement to the composition.
Stylised spandrels frame the medallions beautifully, while the runner is enclosed by a striking orange border and a contrasting cream guard border, enhancing its visual structure.
Though the piece has been slightly reduced and exhibits minor colour bleeding in part of the border, these aspects are consistent with its age and have been factored into the price. The rug also has areas of low pile, as shown in the images, adding to its authentic vintage appeal.
This runner is a fine example of Bijar weaving, known for its robustness and dense structure, making it suitable for high-traffic areas like hallways while serving as a rich decorative feature.
