Description
This is an antique Heriz Carpet with an unusual imposing design. Heriz carpets are usually known for their geometric design, but here the weaver has tried to give a curvilinear feel to the design. The dark blue border has a flowing floral motif, and the field is decorated with a large medallion where the edges have been rounded up. In place of spandrels, there are large and very stylish boteh or paisley designs in light blue on a beautiful hue of soft red.
The condition is good for the age, with the ends rewoven and some small areas of repiling. It would make an impressive library rug, although it would elevate any room to a different level.
