This exquisite antique Kurdish carpet comes from the western region of Iran, a renowned hub for some of the most collectible and character-rich tribal weavings in Persian textile history. It features a captivating blue ground adorned with five diamond-shaped medallions, each bearing a symbolic cross motif that reflects the tribal iconography often passed through generations.
Scattered across the field are stylized fish motifs and charming primitive drawings of men and women, adding a human and folkloric element that is both whimsical and culturally significant. These rare figurative elements offer a glimpse into the storytelling nature of Kurdish weaving.
The carpet is elegantly framed by delicate guard borders filled with tiny flowers, while the main border stands out with large, stylized floral motifs in soft pinks and creams, all set against a vibrant red background. This classic red-and-blue contrast is both decorative and timeless.
Woven from exceptionally soft, high-quality wool, the carpet’s surface gleams with a natural sheen, further enhanced by natural plant-based dyes that have aged beautifully. The result is a rich, saturated palette that speaks to the skill of both the spinner and the dyer.
Maintaining a full, even pile, this piece is not only a functional and durable floor covering but also a true work of art—ideal for collectors or anyone looking to add cultural depth, color, and texture to their space.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
