This antique Yamoud Turkmen rug, dated 1899 (inscribed in three places at one end), is a particularly fine example of the type. Woven with meticulous care and high-quality handspun wool, it showcases an all-over Kepse Gul design across a rich red field, exuding depth and cultural significance.

Framing the field is a beautifully drawn vine and curled leaf border on a soft cream background, offering contrast and refinement that elevates the entire composition. The border’s fluidity complements the strong geometry of the guls, creating a harmonious and eye-catching layout.

The vibrant tones and clarity of pattern are the result of natural vegetable dyes, which not only lend a depth and warmth to the colours but have aged gracefully over time.
