Choobi Rug 207x166cm
Sweet Afghan Choobi carpet. Choobis, also known as Zeigler, are woven by Afghan refugees in Pakistan, in the town of Peshawar and after the removal of the Taliban in Afghanistan itself. They have been very much in demand since 2000. They are woven using handspun wool and natural dyes. Their production soared due to the sanctions imposed on importing Iranian rugs to the USA starting in the 1980s. This piece is particularly finely woven with very harmonious colours. The straw-coloured ground is decorated with large Shah Abbasi guls and branches. The rose border has flower heads flanked by cream guard borders on either side.
