Very fine Mashad carpet from Northeast of Iran. All over floral design on a cream background, framed with a floral blue border. This piece is woven by “Astane Ghods”. Almost all their production is large pieces for the Holy Shrine of the 8th Shia Emam in Mashad. They use the best weavers as it is an honour to weave for the Shrine and the highest quality wool and natural dyes. Their carpets are invariably very fine and difficult to find in the open market. After 20 to 30 years of use in the Shrine they are auctioned off in Mashad and because of their provenance they are very sought after by the Iranian public. The signature reads “Astane Ghods Carpet Factory”.
