This interesting vintage Lori Bakhtiari tobreh originates from West Iran, a region celebrated for its rich nomadic weaving heritage. A tobreh (large tribal bag) was traditionally used by nomads to store and transport goods on donkeys or camels, making well-preserved examples such as this extremely rare.
This particular piece has been opened up to reveal its dual weaving technique — a combination of flat weave and pile weave, which showcases the weaver’s technical mastery and artistic sensibility.
The piled section features lustrous, high-quality handspun wool, displaying a charming square motif framed by a bold geometric border, creating visual depth and texture. In contrast, the flat weave section is very finely woven, adorned with tribal designs and completed with a distinctive square finish at one end.
In very good condition for its age, this torbeh is both decorative and versatile. It can be used as a floor accent, adding warmth and authenticity to a modern or rustic space, or hung on a wall as an exquisite example of tribal textile art.
A superb collector’s piece, it embodies the nomadic spirit and craftsmanship of the Lori Bakhtiari tribes, representing a fusion of cultural heritage and artistry that continues to inspire collectors of Persian rugs in London and admirers of handmade rugs across the UK.
Free delivery within 3-5 business days of payment for the United Kingdom, and 5-10 Business Days shipping for orders outside the UK, with a 28-day return policy. For more information, please refer to our Return and Shipping Policy.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
