This antique nomadic tentband from the Bakhtiar tribes of West Iran is an incredibly special and historically rich piece. Woven in 1327–1328 in the Islamic calendar (1909–1910 AD), this band was crafted with evident care and time — a detail made clear by the woven dates at each end, suggesting it took an entire year to complete.
Adding a deeply personal touch, the weaver, Gol Nesa, has woven her name into the textile, an uncommon and meaningful feature that elevates the authenticity and uniqueness of the band.
The design is rendered in a simple yet charming two-colour palette, featuring bushes, stylised human figures, and tribal motifs, reflecting the daily life, beliefs, and identity of the nomadic weaver. The fine weave and linear format are typical of tentbands, which were traditionally used to secure or decorate the interior and exterior of nomadic tents.
Though there are minor edge issues visible (as shown in the images), the overall condition is remarkably good, especially for a piece now over a century old. Its folk-art charm, combined with personal, historical, and decorative significance, makes this an excellent collector’s piece.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
