This attractive antique Qashqai rug from the tribes of South Iran is a vibrant and expressive example of tribal weaving, rich in symbolism and character. At the heart of the composition lies a striking Hashgul medallion, formed by eight stylised paisleys, symbolising unity, fertility, and protection. The medallion is slightly off-centre, a charming and endearing quality often seen in genuinely tribal weavings, where the weaver’s individual touch and spontaneity are celebrated.

Above multicoloured vertical columns sit the distinctive horse heads, a motif inspired by the Persepolis columns of ancient Persia. These elements connect tribal weaving with the grandeur of Persian history, representing both cultural identity and artistic storytelling.
