This fascinating vintage Baluch bag from Northeast Iran is a true gem for tribal textile collectors. Rich in cultural symbolism and artisan detail, it likely served as part of a traditional dowry, as indicated by the multicoloured tufts at one end—a decorative hallmark often added by the weaver to mark a personal or ceremonial creation.
Below the tufts, you’ll notice a finely woven red kilim band featuring a subtle S-motif, a recurring symbol in tribal design. At the opposite end, a contrasting motif sits on a deep black background, adding to the visual and cultural complexity of the piece.
Crafted using high-quality, soft wool, the bag is dyed with the Baluchis’ signature saturated reds and blues. Scattered across the central field are small flowerheads, and in each corner, a charming goat motif—evoking life, protection, and fertility in traditional tribal symbolism.
Whether appreciated for its aesthetic beauty, historical value, or cultural significance, this Baluch bag is a standout collector’s item and an expressive decorative accent.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sharifi & Co. He is an expert on carpets and kilims and clearly loves and appreciates them. His company washed, repaired and moth proofed my beautiful Uzbek kilim within a very short time. Thank you very much Sharifi & Co.

It was a great pleasure doing business with Mr. Sharafi, he knows and loves rugs and that is reflected in the excellent work he has done restoring and repairing mine. They’re looking lovely (and I promise I’ll take good care of them!) Thank you.

Looking for someone who specialises in cleaning persian rugs is like walking a minefield. Thank goodness I found Sharafi. I knew I was on the right track when I heard the National Trust gets their antique rugs done there. Ok no more drinking red wine on valuable heirloom…
