Turkmen rugs are known for their rich reds and fine weaving. Their pile is invariably cut low to bring out a sharp design. This piece has a beautiful shade of red with many small motifs. While it is a Pardeh type of design. It also has a small niche at one end, which suggests that it was used as a prayer rug. Pardeh means curtain, and these rugs were used as a barrier to the entrance of a Yurt or tent. The wool has a silky look.
